30 For 30 Day 11: Sisters Who Make Life Grand

Today’s 30 For 30 is for my sisters who helped me become who I am and have shown me what hard work can do for you. Growing up, my sisters were a big part of my life. They are both at least 10 years older than I am and they both got married at relatively young ages. I can understand why as they were probably ready to start their own lives and my mother is pretty demanding so they were ready to build a life for themselves.

My oldest sister is a genuinely amazing person. Honestly I can’t think of one bad thing to say about her. In fact I have never seen her angry when she didn’t have any reason not to be. She is a saint. She has raised 5 kids that weren’t hers and didn’t complain or ask for anything. Every time I get upset about something or I need to hear a few good words, she is the first person I call because for her the glass is always half full.

My other sister is a model of God’s work. She has her issues but she is such a good person at the heart, she gets run over a lot. Unfortunately for her, she is a little too true to her friends who in most cases aren’t really about anything positive. When she is rolling on the straight and narrow, there isn’t a better person to be around. She is funny and she knows how to have fun. She sometimes has a problem drawing the line on where that fun should end but she has improved on that tremendously the past few years.

Growing up with these two was probably the best thing that could have ever happened to me. They were both athletic and in many cases they were the best athletes on their teams and because they were only two years apart they spent time on the same team together. Personality wise though they were two extremes. My oldest sister was a lot like me in that she knew she was good at what she was doing and never questioned her ability. However my other sister had more talent than anyone but she always had doubts about how good she really was and never really put her talent on display.

In a lot of ways I can see how that has carried over into all of our lives. I for one am never really afraid of any new challenges. I am not afraid of failure. To me failure is only temporary. I have seen people who haven’t achieved because they were afraid of failure.

Either way these two women are the best. They helped me become the man I am. I love them dearly for all that they have done. So today I give thanks that they are in my life.

What a beautiful testimony for your sisters! I enjoyed reading. You’re very lucky to have two such strong women in your lives. It makes me appreciate my family too. Thank you 🙂

Family is never an entity to take for granted. Strong women have done more for this country than anyone and i for one am grateful.
