Recognizing Your Flaws While Building Character

Losing in life is tough. I am a sore loser and I know it. Many times we lose things we covet for weird reasons. We can lose things because we’re careless, greedy, or because we’re impervious to our feelings about the things we care about the most.

My greatest flaw in life is greed. I recognize this even more when I evaluate my life as a whole. You gain weight because you’re greedy. You lose friends and time because you’re greedy. You also alienate people you care about because your greed gets in the way of making rational decisions.

Self reflection is important because it helps us understand who we are. Yesterday I saw someone post a character trait list of various zodiac signs and I was amazed at how accurate half of it was and how inaccurate I thought it was until I self reflected a little.

Here is what it said:

GEMINI – The Twin (May 21 to June 20)
Nice. Love is one of a kind. Great listeners. Very good at confusing people. Lover not a fighter, but will still knock you out. Geminis will not take any crap from anyone. Geminis like to tell people what they should do and get offended easily. They are great at losing things and are forgetful. Geminis can be very sarcastic and childish at times and are very nosy. Trustworthy. Always happy. VERY Loud. Talkative. Outgoing. VERY FORGIVING. Loves to make out. Has a beautiful smile. Generous. Strong. THE MOST IRRESISTIBLE.

The bold letters are things that I wouldn’t necessarily say were character traits that describe me but then I thought for a second. I am all of those things when I get to know you. I never think of myself as talkative but I guess I am when I know a person or I see you on the regular. With my friends I talk a mile a minute. When I’m in the gym, I’m one of the loudest people in there some days. I guess there is some relevance to this quote and even more reason to believe that the universe is always right and will never give us more than we can handle.

Since I’ve been in therapy, I’m learning a lot of us black people in general are genetically predisposed to a lot of bad things. Whatever the case is, we as a whole, do not use the proper outlets to achieve personal growth. Sharing feelings, crying, constructive criticism, etc are things that most of us deems as taboo. We have to justify certain emotions because we are already labeled angry or violent. This is a cycle breaker post because self reflection is the key to our own growth. Fire

Exactly. Most people will read this and insinuate instead of looking at it and saying that “he is getting a grasp on himself and his actions.” Self reflection lets you see your role in everything that disappoints you. We get angry and are so quick to point out what everyone else did instead of looking at the common denominator. Therapy is a good thing. Appreciate you sharing bro.
