30 Years Old; When The NFL Running Back Becomes A Dinosaur

box01nzcaaafosy

Earlier this week we watched the release of 2 of the greatest running backs of the modern era. Both Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson have been staples of NFL running games for the past 7 years. Now Charles, 30, and Peterson, 31, have found themselves in the unemployment line. Considered washed up and used goods. On the exterior they have to feel as if they have lots of life left in their bodies. The reality is that very few runners are productive past their 30th birthday.

Why? The reality is that the wear and tear of a running back is extreme. All it really takes is one max carry season and the next season will be riddled with injuries. There are many that subscribe to the thought that the curse of 370 is just a hoax. I’m here to tell you that the curse of 370 is real. Just ask Demarco Murray, Larry Johnson, Terrell Davis, Jamaal Lewis, Curtis Martin, Earl Campbell, Barry Foster, and Shaun Alexander.  Continue reading

How to Fix The Pro Bowl

After watching the Pro Bowl last night it was apparent that the younger players were far more vested in playing than the older guys. Rightfully so as the older guys are nearing the end of their careers and they know that an injury would derail the end of their careers. This years Pro Bowl at least exerted effort. I loved seeing the defense step up and play hard and offensive players put forth an effort that made it appear more than a 7 on 7 match-up.

Viewing the game I started having a lot of ideas about what would make this game a little more interesting. I like the fact that the players are elected by the fans. They do a great job of selecting the people that are most deserving. However they may not choose the players that would be the best fit for the game.

Here’s how I would fix it: Continue reading

Yesterday I was hit with the question is it okay to just want a physical relationship with someone. In reality, there is nothing wrong with wanting a physical relationship from someone you like. You just have to better understand that she has to be on the same page as you and you need to know who you are.

Since I am a former college football coach, I’ll create a scenario that you can relate too in case we have a few younger readers stumble upon the site. Female readers read closely as well because I am sure you will understand what I am saying just as good as the male readers.

Imagine you are a Head Coach for a minute. There are several situations come your way all the time. How you handle them says a lot about you and how you handle adversity. Continue reading

Why Alabama Is Different When It Comes To College Football

When you look at The University of Alabama football, it almost always looks like they stay ahead of the curve.  Taking old coaches and scrubbing them clean while rehabilitating them for future head coaching positions is the cornerstone for Nick Saban.

Nick Saban is always 5 steps in front of everyone else. Saban is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. While the NCAA and most universities play amateur sports, Saban understands that this is big business. Alabama wins because they have the best business model. They invest, they work to their own standard, they’re audacious, hold themselves accountable AND they don’t care what you think about them. Four National Championships in seven years and the favorite to win the 5th in eight years in January. Continue reading

A Fans Take On the Quarterback Conundrum In Dallas

I pride myself on being a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. In fact outside of my family, the longest relationship I’ve ever had has been with the Dallas Cowboys. I’ve loved them through thick and thin and there have been several times I’ve wanted to leave but stayed. I’m loyal to a fault and even though I step out on my team from time to time, I always have their back regardless of how I feel about them and how they are playing.

The Dallas Cowboys have a very big decision to make in the next week. The return of Tony Romo is eminent and if you were looking for a return to form, this would have been the best case scenario ever. Except the Cowboys are 5 – 1 without Romo at the helm and Rayne Dakota Prescott is balling at a high level.

Why Homecoming At An HBCU Is A Family Event

High school graduation is a benchmark in everyone’s lives. It marks the beginning of your new life. Whether you’re going to college, the military, or you’re staying home and getting a job, that day you graduate from high school sets the tone for the rest of your life.

Many of you will leave high school and go to college. College is where you will form and develop lifelong friends. It’s amazing to me how little I contact and communicate with my high school friends, but I’m always engaged or communicating with people I went to college with.

The epicenter of college entertainment is the homecoming. Homecoming at an HBCU is like a family reunion that never ends. It’s a week of festivities that connect generations of people with common accolades and brings opportunity and circumstance to people in need or people who are social butterflies.  Continue reading
