Keeping The Things That Matter

lock

Have you ever had something that you wanted more than anything, then you got it and didn’t know how to keep it? Happens to me quite a bit. Not sure how or why I can’t get it right but for some reason it always appears to happen to me. It can be something or someone and I always and I mean always find a way to lose it.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s meant for me to have things I desire. Even when I take care of the things I cherish the most, they always find a way to disappear or become unusable. Why this happens is beyond me but it always appears to be the case. From this point forward, I will hold on a little tighter, give things more care, and appreciate the value of the things I want to keep.

Finding what you want is hard and keeping it is even harder. This past weekend I had a discussion with a friend. We talked about value and self worth. The main focus was that sometimes the things we value most don’t add value to our lives. When things we find things that add value to our lives we need to preserve them and when they don’t add value, we need to let them go or get what we can for them.

The conversation was interesting and her advice to me was simple. She said, you have a lot of treasures in your life. More than you could ever imagine. The problem humans have is they place so much value on all the wrong things. Re focus your energy on what’s really important and watch your life prosper. If you’ve ever let something go, if you really want it, you know how to go back and get it. It was yours at one point and you know how you got it, so there’s a chance that if it was as important to you as you claim, its there for the taking. Just be ready to work hard to keep it. If you already have it in your life, treat it like it’s your most valuable asset. If it’s worth it to you, you will find a way.
